Hunting DVD

A hunting dvd is a relatively new item, and for good reason. DVD, or digital video discs are not that old of a technology. They were pioneered after the CD (or compact disc) and only made their first appearance on the entertainment scene in 1995. The market was slow to take up the dvd over the more conventional video formats, primarily because it seemed so easy to damage the discs.

However, the next 10 years saw the eminence of the personal computer and the information explosion of the internet, and suddenly the storage capacity of DVDs was something that was needed, a video cassette just couldn’t hold the amount of information required anymore. And so the entertainment industry begrudgingly accepted the DVD as the medium of choice for movies. The home recording industry lagged somewhat behind the movie production industry in adopting DVD formatting, and because of that hunting DVDs enjoyed a short window of opportunity.

There were a few years between a video recorder and the now commonplace digital recorders in which DVDs were the method of choice for home recordings. Now your top of the line video cameras record directly to solid state memory, such as a flash drive, which has a much higher storage capacity than even the impressive DVD format. From these flash drives you can still make discs to give to your friends and family, because it’s much cheaper to send out hunting DVDs than flash memory drives.
