Hunting Clothes

Everyone is familiar with the sight of a hunter in camouflage, but camouflage is not the only, or even necessarily the best approach to take for hunting clothes. Any duck hunter will tell you that a good set of waders, even if they’re hunting from a skiff, are an essential part of their getup. And if your deer season starts after the snow has begun flying, you’ll want to look for something with warmth as well as concealment.

However, the most important consideration I have saved for the last: and that is safety. Every year hunters are accidentally injured or even killed by other hunters that mistake them for game. One famous recent example involved a sitting vice president injuring his hunting partner. The hunting clothes you wear should include at least some of the caution orange that signals to other hunters that you aren’t something they should be firing in the vicinity of.

Whether it is boots, pants, jacket, or hat, ensuring that another hunter can tell you apart from whatever is in season is an important part of choosing the right hunting clothes.  Always dress for the season and be prepared for the weather to take a turn for the worse during the hunt.
